Fluid for hydraulic disc brakes
someone trolled:
What are the pros and cons of mineral oil vs DOT 4 as fluid for hydraulic disc brakes? Use the fluid the manufacturer recommends, the one with which the fluid seals and piston cups work best. Any reasonable brake fluid will not freeze and won't not compress (be spongy). Of course, this has been discussed at great length here often, so it's not new. So why ask? Jobst Brandt |

Fluid for hydraulic disc brakes
I ask because I am new to cycling and shopping for my first adult bike.
I am looking at the Jamis Allegro 3X and the disc brakes use mineral oil...but I read someplace that DOT oil works better. Just wanting qualified opinions before spending my money. |

Fluid for hydraulic disc brakes
"web guy" wrote in message ... What are the pros and cons of mineral oil vs DOT 4 as fluid for hydraulic disc brakes? Mineral oil pros: very much less chance of getting water in it and rusting something out Is a lubricant Does not ruin paint if it is spilled Is cheap Can be recycled DOT-4 Brake fluid pros: Can withstand thousands of PSI of pressure, hundreds of degrees of heat. (neither of which you will have on a bicycle) Works great as a paint remover if you have run out of paint remover. Ted |
