Default SLC Bike Articles

Couple of bike-related articles in today's (6/16) Salt Lake Tribune:

I gotta admit I'd like to meet a couple of the people profiled in the
first article.

These links will probably work for about a week.

Downtown SLC is a nightmare of distraction for motorists. They have
the widest streets in the USA, 3 lane ea. dir. Safety studies show
that a street in excess of 30 feet degrades visibility, reaction time
and safety. In the middle of their streets they run Trolley service,
2 tracks w/ 12" concrete separation curbs. I wouldn't ride on SLC
streets for safety reasons. I lived in SLC for 10 yrs.

I've only ridden downtown once, when I was a new rider last summer.
I'm not too ashamed to admit that I rode slowly on the sidewalks.
No one could feel safe riding those streets.

It is heartening though that last summer the police undertook a
campaign to enforce pedestrian rights in crosswalks, ticketing those
who failed to yeild to peds.
