I took a Dutch course on tape and so I knew how to pronounce it. a couple
of years later my German (Swiss) was pretty good and I found I could read
Dutch pretty well (relatively so), and would always get directions and order
in Dutch. Often, I'd insert a German word if I didn't know the Dutch one
and by and large be understood. I'd tell anyone who switched to English
that I didn't speak it. This also works in Quebec when they switch to
English.
Maybe we could get Ewoud to post every race. Then we'll really get our
comprehension going!
