Winter Reading: Pacific Coast '04 Travelog
Me and another guy rode the Pacific Coast from Nanaimo, BC to Imperial Beach, CA. last summer, mostly credit card style, but with occasional camping. Here's the log for anyone who needs to kill a few hours until springtime. http://www.officebears.com/cycling/t...icCoast04.html -bob |

Wonderful to see ride reports from an area I only know from TV and tales. Great job...thanks for sharing. -- Erick Low Countries By Bike http://lowcountriesbybike.info/ |

Very nicely done! Thanks. I am riding a small section of the coast
this summer (Palo Alto to SLO) and am hungry for information. I had not thought of shipping from bike shop to bike shop. How did that work out? Tom |

It costs quite a bit more to ship your bike than to carry it on a plane, but it is seems more likely that it will arrive in good shape. If something does get broken, it's already at a bike shop. I've had some minor scratch-type damage but nothing significant. Most shops charge about $25 to pack up a bike and about $45 to reassemble one, plus there's the cost of shipping--it cost $83 to pack and ship one bike back to Maryland from San Diego. Of course, you can always save a few bucks by doing the local packing and reassembly yourself. Not all bike shops are willing to do this kind of business, but usually the bigger ones are. I generally go to the net and pick the place with the best web site...and call them several times to make sure that they know that my bike is coming and when I'm coming to pick it up. I've had pretty good luck with that so far. -bob |
