Pensioner seriously injured after being hit by cyclist

I owuld guess the offender was doing at least 20 mph on her bike. Hi Pam, this thread appears to be getting ever more bizarre. I know you have undoubted talents but can you really look at a photo of a street and from that deduce what speed a cyclist was travelling at when they collided with a pedestrian last Wednesday afternoon? If the cyclist hits a pedestrian who walks out in front of them the OBVIOUSLY the cyclist was hurtling along the road, but if there was a car behind the same cyclist, they would be crawling along slowly. |

QUOTE: A woman was left with serious injuries after she was hit by a cyclist while walking. The crash occurred on The Parade in Parkgate, Neston, last Wednesday afternoon close to Parkgate takeaway. 68-year-old woman from Wirral suffered serious injuries to her leg during the collision. The cyclist, a 31-year-old woman from Ellesmere Port, also sustained minor injuries during the incident Cheshire Police are carrying out further inquiries into the crash and are keen to speak to witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage. A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 3.25pm on Wednesday 20 May officers received reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a cyclist on The parade in Neston. The incident is reported to have occurred at approximately 1.12pm on 20 May, near to Parkgate Takeaway. The pedestrian, a 68-year-old woman from Wirral, sustained serious injuries to her leg as a result of the collision. The cyclist, a 31-year-old woman from Ellesmere Port, sustained minor injuries. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, of anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid the investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML-709267." https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news...ews/pensioner- seriously-injured-after-being-18316421 From the look of the street in the photo, the cyclist was likely to have been belting along it. Parkgate is (or was) a popular gathering place for those out for a relaxing stroll along the former waterfront on the Dee estuary (west side of the Wirral peninsula). It is a historic location (links to Nelson and Lady Hamilton) and has never been known as a fast through-route. The phot shows it's a long straight road, ideal for cycling at speed if it weren't for pedestrians and narrow pavements. The "narrow pavements" might be part of the problem. Who do these pedestrians think they are, eh? |

From now on I'm going with the assumption that, unless proven otherwise, expect others to be bearing ill will towards cyclists - that seems to be the more realistic possibility. |

Is that the speed limit? For most cyclists, yes. I owuld guess the offender was doing at least 20 mph on her bike. I was walking along a country road today into traffic travelling at 60mph. A cyclist doing 20mph instead would have been MUCH more pleasant and FAR less dangerous. |

That thought is bizarre and truly worthy of you. Any cyclist on any given street works out for themselves what the fastest speed is that they could do on it. Happens all the time. |

Events show the cyclist was travelling unsafely for pedestrians. I said I guess the nice straight road in the photo would have permitted her to be going too fast, although who knows what the investigation will reveal. You have gone off at a tangent about motors car and speed limits. Perhaps your questions are leading up to asking what the speed limit is for cyclists. Sigh! Move along. |
