Internet troll arrested - sending messages by electronic communication networks "to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety".
QUOTE:
A MAN accused of posting bogus information on Facebook about the whereabouts of missing Stuart Gilson has been arrested. The 37-year-old Hull man was questioned by police after he contacted a member of Stuart's family, allegedly claiming to have information about the 21-year-old. As a result of the tip-off, police resumed their searches for Stuart for one day, on Saturday, as a precaution before calling it off again. Mr Gilson's family also told police he had tried to persuade one of them to meet him on wasteland close to Newbridge Road, east Hull. The family member was suspicious and called the police, who arrived at the rendezvous. The family said the man drove off past Mount Pleasant and along Holderness Road and was followed by police to Skirlaugh. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction, but is now facing a charge of sending false messages by electronic communication networks "to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety". Stuart's sister, Kimberley Gilson, 24, of east Hull said she was appalled. She said: "We couldn't believe it. "Stuart's Facebook page was being used for the wrong reasons. "I can't believe what has happened. It has made us all so angry. "The worst thing is, because he was posting on the site, everyone knew his name. When he stopped posting, people were posting about him and the focus was taken off Stuart. "We're just glad the police have dealt with it." Stuart vanished 18 days ago on Saturday, January 28, while on a night out with friends in the Old Town. He wandered off without telling his friends and was last seen at 10.17pm on CCTV walking over Drypool Bridge on his own, away from the city centre, as shown in this video clip Police believe Stuart was on his way home to east Hull and chose to take a shortcut on to a path that runs alongside the River Hull at the other side of the bridge. The Facebook group, called Missing Stuart Gilson, was set up two days after he disappeared and has attracted almost 20,000 members. The group is used to co-ordinate the searches for him and hundreds of people have turned out to try to find him. Stuart's family say the man was an active member of the group, posting messages daily and openly chatting to other members. He joined people on searches for Stuart and claimed to be a CCTV operator. The Mail understands officers have searched his house, car and seized his computers and mobile phone. A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "He was arrested after allegedly contacting a member of the Stuart Gilson Facebook page and claiming to have information about the whereabouts of Stuart Gilson. "As a precaution, police searched wasteland close at Staxton Court, Hull on Saturday, February 11, 2012. "However, there is no evidence to suggest that Mr Gilson was ever in the area." The charge the man faces is similar to that of wasting police time. He has now been released on police bail, pending further inquiries. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.c...ail/story.html -- Simon Mason |

Did anyone else find it? It's interesting to be reminded that wasting the time of the police is an offence though, isn't it? |

Ring any bells? Not unless you've been arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction. Have you? |
