Default GPS Track Logging

Does anyone know of a PocketPC application which logs position and altitude
during a ride for download and analysis? Living and riding on the fringe of
the Derbyshire Dales I'm particularly interested in working out height gains
and gradients.

I've got a trial copy of GPS2GoogleEarth which writes out a .KML file of the
track for Google Earth import. The mapping utility on the CTC site also
works out an altitude profile from KML data, although (and I'm really new to
this so please excuse my ignorance) I can't see any altitude data in the
file itself. I'm not averse to doing a bit of maths to go from lat/long to
range/bearing and I don't need the software to display a map (although that
would be a bonus).

thanks

Try Trekbuddy. It runs on Java ME so should run on a pocket PC type
appliance. I use it quite successfully on my phone (SE k770i).

I have been using a Qstarz Q1000P via Bluetooth (or was till the USB
side of it died) as a GPS unit but you should be able to use the built
in GPS if you have it.

Nokia have "Sports Tracker" which I have used whilst out kayaking. Pretty
good for recording the couple of times I've used it ...

Get youself a copy of Memory Map, works on both PC & PocketPC.

I use it with a Road Angel 7000 - great stuff.

Memory Map does - but it is not free.

Install program switch on reciever and pocket pc and ride.

It will log the track you take and you can see at any point your altitute.

Download to pc and get a cross section etc.

As I said not free.

On my Navman PiN 570 I had to find a separate GPS config tweaking utility
to turn the altitude output from the GPS bit back on (the road navigation
that comes with the PDA turned it off), and the altitude information varies
more than the position output, so using the GPS position information to
get the altitude off the map might actually be more accurate.
That'll depend on your particular GPS though, I'm sure.

If you _just_ want logging, Memory-Map is almost certainly excessive.
Being able to have an OS map for vast areas on a memory card is very
nice though.

I will, it will be a couple of weeks or more before I can get out again
midweek.
