Low end schwinn...
Just a few word for the one wondering if they should buy those bike.My
answer is yes. I bought mine over one month ago Schwinn Sierra and I am fully satisfied, so satisfied that I am riding everyday, and that by itslef is unbelievable. I agree that it is maybe not the best quality, but if that is enough to make you start excersizing again go for it. I'm pretty sure they will last but only with good maintenance, and if not ? so be it I will ditch it. Specialist, you will probably laugh at the spec below, but for now its sufficient . MSRP: $299.99 Year: 2004 Features: TIG-welded N'Litened 26" custom drawn frame is light and strong. Full braze-on mounts for accessories provided. SRAM 21-speed 4.0 with 4.0 Pro rotational shifter with Schwinn AutoPilot ergonomic grips provide superior comfort with our without gloves. SuperSoft mattress saddle mounted on a suspension seatpost gives 2-stage progressive comfort and shock absorption. "rick" rick @ nowhere.com wrote in message ... Just a few word for the one wondering if they should buy those bike.My answer is yes. If you bought your Schwinn at a bike shop, it's not even close in quality to what's available at WalMart. A bike shop entry level Schwinn is comparable to any other entry level bike shop bikes, be it Trek, Giant, Cannondale(well, maybe not Cannondale). |

A bike shop entry level Schwinn is comparable to any other entry level bike shop bikes, be it Trek, Giant, Cannondale(well, maybe not Cannondale). Check the components. My wife's Walmart Schwinn from last year has the same, or slightly better components than my daughter's low-end LBS bike bought a year earlier--read derailleur is up one step in the Shimano food-chain over the LBS bike, the front fork is also one notch up (same brand but cast alum parts instead of painted steel). Same with the brakes. The Schwinn also has two sets of braze-ons vs one on my daughter's bike and a threadless rather than threaded headset. The one exception to that rule is that the Schwinn has a quick release front wheel only. Overall, though, I think the Schwinn was a heck of a deal for $149. The main downside is no free LBS tune-ups -- you have to do that yourself (which I don't really mind). |

Honest curiosity here. Because entry level Cannondales are a cut above the run-o-mill entry level bikes. For many years, all Cannondales of a given species sported the same kind of USA-made frame, only with different paint colors and parts selections. The fancy models these days are distinguished not by craftsmanship or finish, but just by obsessively "lightweighted" designs. Even now the cheapest Cannondale bikes sport top quality hand-welded and hand-finished aluminum frames made in the USA. As a result, they don't start as cheap as other makes-- so you could say that they just don't make any entry level bikes. Chalo Colina |

I guess I was wondering if it was anti-C'dale bias or something. -km -- the black rose proud to be owned by a yorkie http://community.webshots.com/user/blackrosequilts |

Because all Cannondales have USA made hand welded frames, while the other manufacturers use cheaper frames for their entry level bikes. Not that you can really get a bad bike from an LBS. But Cannondale is the only big manufacturer that equips every bike they make with a US made frame, regardless of price level. |

I found his bike to be a heavy, poorly performing tank. I do not doubt what you're saying, but his bike was a piece of junk. Maybe things have changed? |
