...went for an XC with about 3" of light powder on the ground on top of
the mostly hardpack underneath.

Vis was terrible. Overcast, moderate snow & very flat light, basically
"white-out" conditions.

Generally, had NO clue about the terrain under the snow, except for a
prior knowledge of the general "lay-of-the-land" and where the really
nasty whoops might be in a very general sense. No ability to see the
hard stuff under the snow.

I did have more than average number of UPD's, especially out of the
track, including one where I landed on my feet and slide on the ice
underneath the powder for about 20' while doing a cartoon version of a
meringue (or maybe Charleston or jive) dance before landing hard on my
ass.

Combined with that, I think that as a compensation, I must have been
sitting really far forward to absorb the mostly unknown terrain - cus my
lower back is really sore and tight. But...I had fun.

Finally rode out of reach of the railing for the first time and rode
down the driveway. No problems and it felt great! 13 hours practice to
get to this point.

Only made 2 revs but I could stillstand for a really long time.

Uni looks ridiculous without the tire.

Yeah, but what do you expect from those tiny trials rims? Seriously,
half the wheel is tire.

Today I might finally get some real snow. The weather has just been
playing with us for the last 2 months

That's cheating. Put the tyre back on and have a proper go!

Me and a mate tried to ride along one of these at a local play ground:

It was pretty hard seeing as they're so slack!

I got my first comments today from pedestrians, onlookers, and
motorists. My first ever was a thumbs up from a crossing guard in his
vehicle, followed by a gasp/sigh from a lady on the sidewalk where I was
riding. I later got a big smile from a driver, then "Yeah!" and "Run
it" from two fellows on a porch as I was riding by.

As for something I actually did on my uni... Well, I did successfully
ride across frozen wood chips on a playground...

Today I nearly landed 540 unispins. I got the spin really well and
nearly got my feet on the pedals on one attempt. And then on the next
attempt I absolutely decked it and bent a few spokes a bit. I'll try
again soon and true the wheel.

Keep going Josh. You'll have to come down to London in the New Year and
we'll go hit some of the awesome street down here. I haven't ridden any
of it yet, but I know there's some great stuff. I'd love to see the
540's landed. I need to work on all of the basics again seeing as I
haven't ridden for a couple of months until this week. So glad my broken
finger hasn't stopped me doing everything I love!
Have you tried 180 unispin crankflips yet? Or even Treyflips?!

I still haven't learnt how to crankflip.

It's weird. I can very nearly 540 unispin but I can't crankflip at all.
I should start trying to learn.

Yeah. I'll have to come down to london at some point. I get home on the
13th of december so I'm free from then onwards.
