Default Have you ever been fined or stopped for pavement cycling?

I was approached the other day by an community support officer after I
had just gotten off my bike from cycling a short stretch on the
pavement. She told me if she had caught me I would have been fined. I
certainly will be more careful from now on.

Do you have a story relating to cycling on the pavement, in
particular, getting caught?

I've seen loads of cyclists stopped in The City, 200 were caught near
Smithfield, I think.

Yes, I've been caught and ticked off in a similar way when riding in a
pedestrian area in the town centre. I have to say that I do this fairly
regularly - never when there are a lot of people about, always very
carefully, and always with an eye out for the fuzz, now!

I do get annoyed when I see cyclists, particularly youngsters, cycling at
speed and making people get out of the way, This is out of line ... I think
cycling is perfectly safe around people if you go at walking speed and take
care. Unfortunately, as in everything else in life, you can't trust
everyone to be sensible so we all get penalised!

I've often wondered whether I get picked up on the ubiquitous CCTV?

Maybe I should wear a hoodie!

Cycling on the pavement is for small children: not for adults who should
know better.

I had my name taken for cycling on the wrong path in Kensington
Gardens / Hyde Park. The copper said that the parks' folks had just
spent a lot of money painting new signs about which paths were OK and
they wanted to make sure they were getting value out of it. Seemed
fair enough and I've not done it again, was only a slight shortcut
anyway.

My Dad tells me the only time he's ever been nicked for anything was
when he was caught and fined for cycling up a no-cycling cut-through
alley. Must have been at least 50 years ago.

Broadgate security guard asked me very nicely to get off a few weeks
ago. Not sure what the rules are there as it is private property.
I'd naively assumed it was OK coz the bike plod regularly cycle around
it.

Only been caught once. Was accompanying a mate to the pub, him on foot, me
with bike. I was riding along at walking pace with him, rather than pushing
the bike (takes up less room). Got told to ride in the road - that was it.

(If I'd been on my own, I'd have been going above walking pace, and if I'd
been going above walking pace, I'd have been on the road).

I got told off for cycling on a pedestrian only road in Cambridge
once. I thought it was a tad mean, as the policeman had to stop his
car to tell me off for cycling there... The worst bit was that my son
(who was about 3yrs old then) was in his seat on the back - he was
completely shocked that I'd been told off by a policeman. I think he
thought I was going to be carted off to jail.

Not specifically getting caught, but as I was waiting to *cross* the
pavement from the road to my driveway I had some old woman mutter about
pavement cyclists. I just asked her if it would be OK if I drove my car
across the pavement to get onto the road or is it just bikes she doesn't
like? (And like I said, I was waiting for her to pass before crossing.)
