Default hit and run justice

A cyclist was hit head-on this spring in Missoula, MT. The motorist
didn't stop and clearly knew he hit someone. You can read the full
story he
http://www.missoulabike.org/BicycleA...etyAlerts.html This
crime (in Montana) is a misdemeanor. That doesn't seem like justice
to me. An accident is one thing, but deliberately leaving someone to
die is altogether another matter. Is there anyone out there with a
legal background that can defend this light penalty?

If circumstances justify, the cage driver can be charged beyond that
particular statute. It depends on the specifics and the local prosecutor.
