Cyclist dies in crash - driver arrested for DD

A CYCLIST has died after a crash with a truck. The road remains closed near Poynings following the collision at 8.50 this morning.

The 55-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries in a collision with a white truck on the A281 West Road. The Peacehaven resident died at the scene.

The road remains closed and Sussex Police remain in the area as they make further enquiries into the incident.

Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The force has now launched an appeal for further information on the crash, urging any witnesses to contact them.

A spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to West Road at 8.50am on where a truck and cyclist had collided.

"Sadly, the cyclist, a man aged 55 from Peacehaven, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. Next of kin have been informed.

"The truck driver - a 29-year-old man from Brighton - was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been taken to custody for questioning.

"Road closures are currently in place.

"Police are appealing to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened to report online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Elmstone."

If the police are satisfied that the truck driver is guilty of
"dangerous driving", one wonders why they want to question him.
