Why should I bother?

"Britain’s 7.5million street lights cost about £500million a year to
operate, making them a tempting target for cash-strapped councils
looking to make savings."

I'm not going to bother with lights on my bike - saves money and
reduces carbon.

huh, typical cyclist mentality. Because there is no legal
compulsion/enforcement many cyclists just can't be arsed. Darwinism at its
finest.

Good idea. It will also stop you posting bollox here.

Dave - intelligent enough to realise that a push bike, like a skateboard, is
a kid's toy, not a viable form of transport.

They didn't say if it was a white cider, surely that would make him
visible if he drank enough, especially if it was sparklnig.

No, no. Your reply was supposed to be:- "So no change there then!"

There must be an awful lot of cyclists who are also trying to wind
people up then. On Monday night, which was wet and very dark, I saw
(only just) a cyclist riding a black bike with no lights or
reflectors, wearing dark coloured clothes. Surely just self
preservation would suggest that carrying working lights and wearing a
reflective jacket at night is a good idea!

There has been calls (prior to this incident) to make that stretch of road a
40mph limit. The limit is 60. The taxi driver claims that he was driving at
50. While this is may be so, it is unusual for a taxi driver to drive so
well within the limit. Traffic at 60+ is not unusual along there.

The road is unlit, and so was the cyclist. The report states he was between
one and three metres from the kerb. Unlit, at night, and on a fast stretch
of road. There is a footpath at the side of *that* road which many (most)
cyclists use even in the daytime. He had been drinking, it seems that his
assessment of the situation may have been impaired.

Hey, be careful out there...
