Default Cycle shop closures

Following on from reports of the highest rate of local bike shop
closures last year since 1960 it has been reported that about half of
Evan's cycle shops will close in the near future.

Overall the UK cycle industry is predicted to sell 1 million fewer
bikes this year compared with last. Although most European countries
have falling rates of bicycle sales the UK is suffering from the
greatest decline of bicycle sales in Europe.

Too many potholes putting them off cycling?

I know one bike shop owner and he is packing it in due to online sales and e-bay purchases mainly. The High St is having a tough time at the moment with pubs, banks and small shops closing as well as the big boys like American Golf, Toys R Us, Maplins and House of Fraser all vanishing.

Meanwhile, new September car sales fell to their lowest level since 2008. A 20% fall from last year.

There are all those secondhand diesels on the market now...

Bound to have an effect, especially if the price-band choice is between
(say) a used BMW diesel and a new petrol Kia.

Get a business plan like the cell phone industry: design bicycles to go slower and slower after 2 years, i.e., the brake starts dragging when you aren't looking.
