e-bike that doesn't look like an e-bike

We'll see if it actually goes into production. Not a bad price at $999. Also, a new version of the Lectric folding bike is supposed to come out next week. It's an $899 bike. It looks like the growth in eBike is going to follow the Tesla model of direct to consumer. The largest eBike manufacturers, like Rad Power Bikes, are already taking this approach. |

What has always worried me about in-hub motors is that they suffer from 'stall' currents when you ride slower than ~15k/hr , with the result that your battery is quickly trashed. What is the comparable price if a basic 21 speed bicycle anyway these days? It isn't like the motor is able to take advantage of the gears. |

I assume you were asking what is the comparable price OF a basic multi speed bike. Looking at WalMart its $200-329 for mountain or road bikes with 21 or so gears. Hybrid and mountain have straight-ish bars with click shifters probably. Road bike has stem shifters. Few hundred dollars for a rideable geared bike, new. Yes I am well aware you would need a lot of bike tools and bike mechanic knowledge to completely overhaul these new bikes before they would be rideable. Or take them to a bike shop and pay them $100-200 to overhaul the bike. Now if you are talking about name brand bikes sold in bike shops, then probably $500 is the starting price. And used bikes are a completely separate category. |

Many of the eBikes aren't very useful without the motor because they lack gearing. A basic 3x7 or 3x8 bicycle with disc brakes, purchased direct, is about $500. To electrify it would be $400-500 and it would be kind of kludgy. |
