(Off Topic) Do people fly over the handlebars now?

Sorry about the slightly comical title.

Just wondering if that kind of crash/fall has almost been eradicated
now? This is in part to the good work of the cycle manufacturers.

Every crash I've seen they've either falling to the side, or just fell
onto their back.

Years ago people going over the handlebars always happened. A very
scary sight to see.

Dunno. But last time I came off was straight over the bars and
plunge forward (when the bars themselves sheered off without warning).

It was briefly scary, as the head flew towards the rocks. Fortunately
I was unencombered by any restrictive gear, and able to avoid injury
(apart from a couple of grazes).

Last time I did that was a couple of years ago. The front wheel
of the MTB jammed in a rut, I went over the handle bars and I
slapped my face on the ground. The bike piled on top of me as my
feet were still attached to the pedals.

No, if anything it's easier nowdays thanks to the higher mechanical
advantage of modern brakes -- like dual-pivot calipers and v-brakes. Not so
much hand strength is required to get strong braking. Alloy rims help as
well.

I've come close to going over a few times, and actually gone over once.

As well as not pulling/pushing the lever too hard, it helps a lot to brace
against the handlebars (push against them) and to shift your weight back,
but all this is easier said than done in the moment of panic as that car
cuts you up.
