In the News: Santiago Perez loses appeal at Spanish court
From the article:
---------------------------------- MADRID, Jan 28 (CP) - Former Phonak rider Santiago Perez lost an appeal at the Spanish court, which leaves the case for the national union and the UCI to judge, sportspaper AS reports. Perez, who ended in second place at last season's Vuelta, failed a blood test on October 5th, and was immediately sacked by Phonak, as well as teammate and Olympic Time Trial champion Tyler Hamilton. The rider felt that his rights had been violated by this out-of-competition test, but the Spanish court decided differently. The Real Federación Española de Ciclismo (RFEC) and the UCI will now handle the matter. The hearing is expected to be within two weeks from now, and a suspension of two years seems a likely outcome. ---------------------------------- Read it at http://www.cyclingpost.com/rider/article_00111.shtml J.
