Default Queensland Raceway to take over Lakeside

In todays (28/9/06) Courier Mail p93. I wonder how much longer we'll be
able to race there. Maybe not long.

Bruce.

Hi Bruce,

I saw that too. It is indeed been taken over by the same crew that own
Qld Raceway out at Ipswich.

Apparently though, the local council (Pine Rivers?) has stipulated as
condition that no V8 racing is allowed to take place. So the plan is
for it to be used as a driver training facility, and for static
motoring history displays, etc.

Oh, and it will be renamed "Lakeside Park".

I don't know if I'd abandon all hope of bike racing - but I suspect
it'll require a fair bit of negotiation, etc. Fingers crossed it works
out!!!!!

Cheers,
Abby

But...but...the local member has promised up that whatever happens we
will still be able to race there, so it must be true!

I have to admit I'm biased - I'd also love to race my motorbikes there
again though.

Oh for sure. The best case scenario is that all user groups get to use
the track - cyclists, motorbikes, cars, etc, etc. Plus that way the
whole track and surrounds will be kept well-maintained as well...

We can only cross our fingers & hope...!!

It happens with Sandown and Phillip Island here. No-one (that I know
of anyway) has raced at Calder Park though? Maybe someone from Sunbury
could see if they could get it. Imagine a crit around the
chunderdrone? Trackies'd be thrilled! "2 to go" .... how far is that
lap again?!
