Default They don't even know why these dangerous cars surge out of control!

Apparently this trouble has been known about since 2006 if not
earlier! So we have had, and still have, many thousands of dangerous
cars allowed to be on our roads on a daily basis! It really makes you
wonder about the condition of cars generally and the efficacy of the
MOT doesn't it.

"...The BBC's Adam Brookes in Washington said that the House Energy
and Commerce Committee had "not yet accepted that Toyota understands
why these cars surged out of control".

"The committee is groping for the rest of the story," he added..."

Note the use of the words 'out of control' so lets stop blaming the
drivers for the crashes shall we? On the other hand, they are
knowingly using dangerous cars on public roads and the government
allows them to continue to do so. What does that say about its
commitment to road safety? Not a lot, eh?

How many serious accidents have they caused? Compared to miles driven?

No, it doesn't.

If I wanted a new car I wouldn't buy it from the BBC who don't know
Jack ****.

Fine, stop blaming the drivers.

No it doesn't say a lot. BTW if I wanted to know about designing motor
cars I wouldn't approach Gordon Mac ****e-Features lot.

AAMOF I wouldn't trust Gordon Mac ****e-Features government with a
bucket full of dead ashes, so it would appear we are in agreement.

Where is the MOT equivalent for a bicycle? Oh that's right, there isn't
one which is why I see many going around at night with no lights on, at
all times with bald tyres, bucked wheels and defective brakes.

Have they actually caused any? I'm not aware of any fatalities,
possibly a few cyclists got knocked over but that's not worth making a
fuss about.

Why? What is the threshold supposed to be below which the deaths don't
matter a jot and there have been deaths due to this in the USA. And
what about all those crashes where the cause hasn't been properly
attributed?

Really! Isn't the prospect of thousands driving around in cars that
can 'surge out of control' enough to raise at least some slight
concern among you bunch of 'couldn't give a damn' motorists?

Doug, whether people from URC agree with you or not, could you please
refrain from cross posting to URD.
I know you do it to wind them up but if you really feel it necessary, can
you please just copy the post to URD and not crosspost.

Thank you

David

The cars don't worry me - its the number of idiots behind the wheel (luckily
mostly yanks so far) who seemed utterly clueless as to what to do when
it happened. That "harrowing" tape of that policeman and family who crashed
made me wonder just what sort of moron they have in the police over there.
Had he not heard of putting the gearbox into neutral , coasting to a stop
and switching off the engine? What a grade-A gold plated moron. Unfortunately
his family paid the ultimate price for his stupidity.

Yesterday, I briefly caught something on the radio about an American
lady having the 'runaway revs' syndrome (in 2006?). The episode lasted
for 6 minutes, and she reached speeds of over 100mph before she was
finally able to being the car to a stop. Apparently it didn't matter
which gear she selected and, when she eventually got the engine switched
off, it repeatedly tried to re-start itself. It does sound very odd.
