At last undeniable proof that home contents insurance covers cyclist for third party liability.
Dave is going to be very upset.
How are you going to drive with that gaping hole in your foot?

And those who do not have such a policy?

Not the point.
We have been told that home contents insurance does not cover cyclists for liability.
This proves otherwise.

Only so long as the cyclist doesn't admit liability. This seems a bit
idiotic to me.

Leave a note on a car windscreen saying that you have accidentally
scraped the car and you are not covered.

Scarper having scraped a car, and you are covered.

Read your motor insurance policy.
You should not admit liability.

Leave your details, let the insurance companies sort it out.

It isn't a motor insurance policy. How will reading your motor
insurance policy (if you have one) assist with understanding the terms
of your home contents insurance policy? Or did you just mean to say
"contents"?

As it happens, my contents insurance does have a similar condition -
section C.1.2 covers my personal liabilities ("any claim for damages
which you may legally have to pay") but the general terms includes
"you must not admit responsibility..."

Does it?

Were the insurance company misreported when they said the cyclist wasn't
covered and that they would make an ex-gratia payment?
