I seem to recall that the former MP Matthew Parris wrote in The Times
one Christmas encouraging members of the public to do this. I wonder
if the yobs responsible for this latest outrage got their idea from
him.

I also seem to remember Doug agreeing with activists doing the same with
the idea of knocking police horse riders off their horses.

1. How many people do you think read what Doug wrote and took him
seriously?

2. How many people do you think read what MP wrote and took him
seriously?

Don't be stupid.

Or at least, don't be more stupid than you have to be.

That "trick" has been known of for decades (at least).

Two different numbers. The answer to the second one is "none".

2. How many people do you think read what MP wrote and took him
seriously?

Everyone who reads him takes him seriously. He is a formidable writer
with serious intellectual skills.

It is absolutely clear that anyone with an ounce of perception (as is,
in any event, required for Times readers) knew immediately what his
purpose was and took *that* seriously.

The usual yobs and chavs were "outraged", of course. But it was a faux
outrage because even they could not be stupid enough to have
misunderstood Parris and what he was getting at.

Could they?

Ha ha ha, good.

I wouldn't go as far as that.

OTOH:

QUOTE:
The first incident happened at 5.30am on September 5, when the
51-year-old victim was making his usual cycle trip to work.
As he cycled along a temporary footpath...
ENDQUOTE

What?

A temporary *what*?

All sympathy I had for him has suddenly evaporated.

All sorts of conjecture is now possible about the trap-layer's motivation.

QUOTE:
Around an hour later a 41-year-old man was cycling along the *same*
stretch...
ENDQUOTE

As I was saying...

The truly hilarious aspect of your comments is the unspoken assumption
that you motor-thugs never break the law and that you would never ride
on footpaths if you could find a bike strong enough to carry your
wheezing flab.
