Wireless cyclocomputer
http://www.auctionflex.com/showlot.a...ction=&lang=En
or http://tinyurl.com/6fnhwx No dead batteries on this wireless model. No adjustments--this one was built for a 54-inch wheel (meaning to the top of the solid tire). We'd enter something like 4308 mm on a modern cyclocomputer. The hands on the dials indicate just a hair over 1,000, 19, & 12/32nds miles. In case you're wondering, you clamped the two-piece affair to your highwheeler's axle, inside all the spokes, and the ball weight hung down to keep things in place as the axle spun. Like this: http://i31.tinypic.com/2dgiz2d.jpg You could looked down between your feet to see how far you'd ridden, but it was safer to wait until you stopped and got off. Somehow I doubt that any modern cyclocomputer, showing only distance, will ever sell for $3500. Cheers, Carl Fogel |
