Well see if people heeded the road closure notices, or being numpties,
ignored them and got stuck.

simon a comparing a short ride around a city center to a ride of 80
miles some 40 of which is urban. Is frankly bizare a sky ride happens
and london frankly doesn't notice.

it's not uncommon for road to get closed now and then.

the problem was there was so many of them, and the woeful commuication,

People survived and nobody got killed.

No one was suggesting otherwise, but equally it's clear the signage and
commutation was lacking.

Comparing it to skyrides and your like does your reputation any favours.

I would say it confirms his reputation.

In the UK? In a busy part of London?

Or perhaps somewhere else, where motor traffic is not as crucial to normal
life as it is in West London?

Both events consisted of thousands of people actually enjoying themselves.
That is a fair comparison.

no Both the pope and skyrides etc, where short distances and city
centers this route went from a city center all the way out past the
suburbs into rural.

the scale of the road closures is nothing near, after all this being
london, we get road closures all the time, folks and events that require
some roads to be closed, happens all the time. from popes to festivals.

this was different becuase of it's massive scale.

now it was a special event and so on the whole I don't think people
minded but they did not commucate clearly the route and the scale of the
closures.

i can only assume your being blinded by your intrest in the race.

There's an interesting piece today about getting to the Olympic events in
general.

For Londoners, it will be an excellent time to be away on holiday.

The Tour of Britain hits the capital today.

"From Whitehall the stage heads up to Trafalgar Square where a right hand
turn takes riders down Northumberland Avenue to the Thames. A left turn
leads onto the Embankment for the long blast up to Tower Hill.

With no turns until the hairpin outside the Tower of London, this section of
the course will play into the hands of the top time trialists who can
maintain their aerodynamic position while putting out a large power output.

From Tower Hill the route retraces its steps, with the slight downhill back
to the Embankment making it the fastest section of the course and a great
place to see how quick the world’s top time trialists can go.

The stage follows the curve of the Embankment, under the watchful gaze of
the London Eye opposite, until reaching the end of Westminster Bridge, where
two right turns in rapid succession, the first outside Portcullis House,
take The Tour past Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament for a great photo
opportunity.

One final effort and one final corner lead to the line, clipping Parliament
Square as they turn into Whitehall and begin to sprint for the line.

With only five corners on the 8.8 kilometre circuit, fast times are expected
on a course which will suit the experienced time trialists, making for a
thrilling conclusion to the 2011 Tour of Britain. "
