A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard Mr Edward was riding along Heol Fach when he approached a bridge under the M4 which causes the road to narrow.

As he approached this point he positioned his bike in the middle of the road to prevent cars from overtaking him until he could return to the side of the wider road safely.

Prosecutor Paul Hewitt told the court Young drove up behind the Mr Edward and became "impatient" with him due to his position in the road.

Mr Hewitt added: "The vehicle connected with the bike and pushed him closer to the kerb, having got to the side of him and turned the car towards him and forcing him into the kerb a second time and hit him in the leg.

"He was clipped to the back and as soon as he had hit the kerb and the car shot off at speed."

Mr Edward, who fortunately suffered no injuries, called the police and reported Young. He said: "I had no injuries but I was extremely shaken up and I though this was person was going to kill me."

Young was arrested and interviewed but initially claimed the cyclist was angry and had refused to move over. He also accused the cyclist of kicking his car but he later accepted his behaviour and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

HERE COMES THE WRIGGLE. Defence barrister Stuart John said his client had suffered with mental health issues throughout his life and was now willing to access support provided to him in order to address that.

Sentencing, Judge Daniel Williams said: "This was a senseless piece of bullying which could have had terrible consequences.

"It is clear from everything I've heard you are bristling with grievances, some justified and some not."

Young, of Heol Onnen, North Cornelly, was sentenced to 34 weeks imprisonment and was disqualified from driving for two years and the duration of his sentence.

He was also ordered to pay £95.97 in compensation.
