if this is priced right as a stand alone item it should sell well and maybe
save a good few lives/injuries

It won't catch on because most drivers would not accept that their standard
of driving and observation skills are ****

gps and speed camera devices have caught on, yet the same accusation could
be leveled at those. It would certainly be something worth having if it is
affordable and works as promised, particularly for city drivers. The way to
sell it might be to get an insurance company on board: reduced premiums if
it is permanently fitted or somesuch, after all the ins. co. would be better
off if less accidents occur. I take the attitude that every little helps as
far as road safety goes. It could even help cyclists avoid peds. if a
bicycle oriented version is developed, perhaps it could also incorporate
warning about small gaps beside lorries and buses.

About cyclists being absolute pricks....

a kid's toy, not a viable form of transport.

And most cyclists, who haven't passed a written & practical test, won't
admit to being terminally stupid.

Maybe. In the airline industry 90% of accidents were due to pilot
error. So they automated as much as they could to reduce the
vulnerability to pilot errors. The accident rate is still 90% pilot error.
