The best pros weren't there. Hincapie won a chump race. Real pros
skip USPRO championships. You'll never see Lance or LeMond racing that
****.

agreed. sad that USPRO is a chump race ... in other countries, that
national championship actually means something

Some do, some don't. Actually, I take that back. Italy and Belgium may
be the last two nations to take their national championships seriously:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Na..._Championships

Andy Schleck is a big-time pro, but the Luxembourg nats were Andy versus
his brother, with Kim Kirchen as comic relief. Look at the results:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/lux...n/stages/stage
-2/results

The time gaps surely tell the tale of this race.

The TT victors are arguably a more credible group of racers.

USPRO does itself few favors by being scheduled during a GT.

Lance is a dick - I'm glad he wasn't there. And Greg "Scar Face"
Lemond isn't racing any more numb nuts.

A lot of guys who race are dicks - what's your point? Lemon Club D never
raced Philly when he was in his prime except the one year he made his
comeback in '89. Otherwise he skipped it. No Levi. No Horny.

What you got in Greenville is the USPRO B squad. Frightening stuff.

Thanks,

Dumbass,

You are the chump. Post a link to the results page of last race _you_
finished before you complain.

Mr. Freides,

I don't race bicycles. But I am intelligent enough to know where the
best U.S. racers are competing at the moment ... and it wasn't in
Greenville, SC, over the weekend.

The fact is, George beat a bunch of guys that he *should* beat. Shame
on him for taking that jersey again and not letting some young kid get
a crack at it.

There is no reason he should let someone else win. You're suggesting
that, because some of the competition decided not to show, George
shouldn't have shown, either? If the competition didn't show, that's
their loss.

Do you compete at anything athletic? I ask because, although I'm not a
bike racer, either, I've competed at other things, and showing up counts
for a whole lot in my book. I've done little local 5k foot races where
my performance wasn't even good in my age group because there was so
much competition but I still showed up and raced.. (My 20:10 5k was
good for 9th place among 40-49 year old men in a 300-entrant race - I
thought a 20 minute 5k was pretty good.) On the other side of that
coin, I've been at powerlifting meets where I was the only guy in my age
and weight class and taken home gold medals and even world records.

Anyone who competes has to do it on someone else's clock, at someone
else's location, and that list goes on and on. Competitors deserve
respect for competing, not people moaning about the fact that they
didn't have sufficient competition.

Dude,

Hincapie got the consolation prize. But if any of those
young kids want a crack at the jersey, they should get
better until they can actually beat Hincapie. Otherwise,
it's just like what you are complaining about - a race
without the best US racers - only without one more of them.
Don't turn USPRO into the Elite zonder Kontrakt
championships. If the kids on D3 teams can't beat
an old fart from a D1 team, they don't deserve to wear
the jersey.

Oh yeah, if the race was in June in Philly, do you think
the field would have been stronger? I do.

Ben
