September 22 - World CarFree Day
So it's CarFree Day today. Ride your bike? Take PT? Limited your car use? Good work, keep it up. Whether it's intentional due to petrol prices, or not..see further links below. Also, regarding that fecking annoying CAPS-LOCK 'No Petrol Day' email keeps being spammed around, it's all crap, read about it on Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp World CarFree Day http://www.worldcarfree.net/wcfd/ World Car-Free Days Collaborative http://www.ecoplan.org/carfreeday/ World Carfree Day — 22 September http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005..._carfree_d.php -- cfsmtb |

774 ABC have been chattering away about the 'petrol free' thing all this arvo. Why oh why couldn't they do some simple research on google and get to the truth of the spam email via Snopes? They've *actually* sent out a reporter to do vox pops on Melbourne's motorists. Hey, never let bullsh*t get in the way of a good story, ahem, spin. Before 6pm apparently they're going to ask if Melbournites are buying 'more bicycles' to beat the price hike. Got a POV? http://www.abc.net.au/melbourne/contact.htm Phone: (03) 9626 1771 (774 enquiries) 1300 222 774 (talkback)* SMS: 19 774 774** -- cfsmtb |

Update: James from Bike Now is currently being interviewed on 774 ABC about more cyclists on Melbourne roads due to the petrol hike. And another thing, the ABC reporter suggested a "On Yer Bike Johnny" campaign to get our Great Lord and Liberal Master to support cycling. I'll strongly support that too. But for COMPLETELY different reasons, other than commuting .... -- cfsmtb |

It's a long weekend in Western Australia and prices normally go up on Fridays, especially before a long weekend. The queues where much longer than normal too. Marty |

Marty Well Hurricane Rita is thumping towards the Texan coast and has already shut down the oil refineries in the Gulf of Mexica. Apparently we should expect petrol prices to bump up towards $1.60/litre. |

Doesn't faze me in the slightest. My car's tank is full, and I don't see any need to buy fuel for at least a couple of weeks. Possibly even more, depending on various matters. The more the message is hammered home to the general population that this situation (cheap fuel) can't last, the better off we'll be in the long term. -- My Usenet From: address now expires after two weeks. If you email me, and the mail bounces, try changing the bit before the "@" to "usenet". |

Oh, I wasn't actually complaining about it. *grin* In fact, there was a hint of schadenfreude there, which is childish but there you are. |
