"Come to our public meeting in Lambeth
Town Hall (Assembly Hall) Acre Lane SW2, 7.30pm Monday September 14th

The meeting will be hosted by Transition Town Brixton. Steve Melia,
Coordinator of Carfree UK and researcher from the University of the
West of England will give a presentation on the many European carfree
areas he has visited and studied, and the evidence of potential demand
amongst people in London. This will be followed by a question and
answer session, and open debate.

Come to our public meeting in Islington
Town Hall (Council Chamber) Upper Street N1, 7.30pm Thursday September
17th

The meeting will be chaired by Koy Thompson, Chief Executive of the
London Cycling Campaign, and will also hear from Tony Armstrong, the
Chief Executive of Living Streets about the benefits of removing cars
from city streets. Steve Melia, Coordinator of Carfree UK and
researcher from the University of the West of England will give a
presentation on the many European carfree areas he has visited and
studied, and the evidence of potential demand amongst people in
London. This will be followed by a question and answer session, and
open debate.

Supported by: Transition Town Brixton, Lambeth Borough Council,
Islington Borough Council, Campaign for Better Transport, Carplus,
Friends of the Earth, Living Streets, London Cycling Campaign,
Sustrans."

Are you going? If you are, you can take a copy of that report for the
Scottish executive[1], in case anyone attempts to mislead the meeting
with spurious claims that cars are anything other than a minority cause
of bicycle casualties. It appears that pavements are a _much_ bigger
culprit. Perhaps the campaign name, and cause, should be changed to
"Pavement-Free London".

Will there be plenty of free car-parking? Without it, the turnout will
be much lower!

I am pretty sure this is about serious 'accidents', aka 'crashes',
mostly caused by being hit by a motor vehicle. Not, say, a cyclist
narrowly missing a pensioner and falling of and grazing an arm.

As your source says:

"Thirty-four per cent of casualties were discharged from hospital on
the same day without any need for follow up, and only 4% of casualties
were admitted."
