Default I went for a cycle ride today.

Nearly all the drivers who passed me, mostly travelling in convoys,
were ignoring those flashing 'slow down' signs. Is it any wonder that
so many people are killed and injured on our roads with such a
cavalier attitude to public safety? Not only that but several large
lorries and not a few cars passed perilously close to me.

Last time I got to one I didn't ignore it. I was going as fast as I could,
trying to get it to light up. (and succeeded :-) ).

You mean they were all driving in the same direction on the same road.

were ignoring those flashing 'slow down' signs.

What sort of signs were they?
Is it any wonder that
so many people are killed and injured on our roads with such a
cavalier attitude to public safety?

Was there any danger?

Not only that but several large
lorries and not a few cars passed perilously close to me.

I am sure they would do a better job next time.

No convoys Doug. You mean they were going in the same direction at the
same time. It's not quite the same thing is it? As you well know, and as
you've been told many times

were ignoring those flashing 'slow down' signs.

Where are these signs exactly, and how could you tell they were ignoring
them ?Do you have a speed detection device fitted to your bicycle? They
could be slowing down just by lifting off the accelerator pedal, no need
for brakes or brake lights.

Is it any wonder that so many people are killed and injured on our
roads with such a cavalier attitude to public safety? Not only that but
several large lorries and not a few cars passed perilously close to me.

How close is "perilously close?". We need to be told.

The one nearest to my house flashes "Slow Down" even if you approach it at
less than the (30 mph) speed limit (as I usually do).

The next nearest (in a 40 limit) does the same, even at (say) 38mph indicated
(which is likely to be a true 36 or 37).

Remember the story about the boy who cried "wolf"?

They are probably placed at danger spots, such as before bends. You
are just not supposed to drive around at a steady 37mph in a 30mph
zone, regardless of conditions.
