Default Cyclist scraps around the world plans

http://www.prweb.com/releases/2004/6/prwebxml134378.php

Since it's a press release, I'll reproduce the whole thing below:

Cyclist Scraps Around the World Plans
Plans for a cyclist to recreate Phileas Fogg's adventure to circumnavigate
the globe have been scrapped.

Plans for a cyclist to recreate Phileas Fogg's adventure to circumnavigate
the globe have been scrapped. Clayton Paris, speaking on behalf of Vinny
Badabing, has stated that, "Mr. Badabing has ended his attempt to travel
around the world on bicycle. He will take a break from his training and
perhaps make the attempt again later this year."

Vinny Badabing, variety entertainer and writer, was to have left Bayonne, NJ
on June 13th and traveled through Europe, the Middle East, and Asia before
eventually returning to New Jersey.

"A couple of things held me up," Mr. Badabing explained. "The first thing is
that I didn't have no passport. The second thing is that I got this really
bad cramp after biking a couple of blocks. But the final straw was the fact
that I hit water. I wasn't planning on cycling across the Atlantic."

Vinny Badabing is not ranked as a cyclist. He has never won, nor has he ever
entered, a cycling competition.

"He has guts, that's all. He's not the brightest guy, but at least he
tried," Mr. Paris offered.

The New Jersey native may be down, but not out---

"I'm applying for a passport and am doing leg exercises to fix the cramps.
About the only thing I can't seem to work out is this Atlantic Ocean
business. I'd take a boat and just cycle around the deck, but it seems like
cheating."

Vinny Badabing is no stranger to art of quitting. His attempts last year to
dig a hole to China, were likewise scrapped after digging only a few feet.

[In case it wasn't clear from the above, Vinny is a professional comedian.
See http://badabing.cheeb.com/ for lines like "MY dreams are usually filled
with visions of food .... I only had one nightmare in my life. I dreamt that
all the mozzarella in the world had been replaced by Kraft American cheese.
I still get shudders just thinking about it."]

I don't care what the other guy said. It's a funny story and thanks for
posting it.

Thanks for the story!

I seem to recall a TV interviewer talking to someone who planned to cycle from
Vancouver to Alaska and then rowing across the Bering strait to Russia and doing
a bicycle trip through Siberia. Of course they must have started already -
anyone hear of this?

Here's a blurb about it:
