timetimetimetimetime..

The 444/544, designed after WW2, is a 4cyl hemi 4 speed with unit body, stiff alleged Corvette like front end on king pins with a 5 point rear suspension on coils with leading arms, drum brakes.

When I was in high school, the 544 was USA’s No 1 import. Highly favored by defense and aerospace industry engineers and mechanics.

A favorite implant was the Ford 289. A remembered photo is three lined up before Pikes Peak. The photo is not in Images but there is a video of a 122 going up.

The Pikes Peak 122 or 123 with rally suspension, motor with cam and webers was, and is, a fast slidey driver.

The Volvo back then was a true mind **** for quality relative to Deetroit,

Assembled by tribesmen in family, the car was a knockout.

My 544 lived in the Pennsylvania Mtns for ten years on a 9 mile dirt road. We would go out in 2 feet of fresh powder, drive down the mtn then up n over the next.

The Lancia compared is a tea cup.

Pikes Peak? I would rather have one of these at under 500 pounds and
150 HP:

With a car, spin: bicycle slide n stop: with 150/500 broken bones and frankly who needs it.

To get that much acceleration and grip in a car, you are looking at
spending over $1M ($1,000,000.00), and the car still will not do
wheelies and stoppies.
