Tour de Yorkshire
It looks like the rate payers of Yorkshire are going to be footing an enormous extra bill for the kiddies' cycle race: The organisers of the Tour de France's launch in England this summer have underestimated the potential cost of the event by £2.3m, a report claims. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-26679085 Still - the Yorkshire rate-payers will not mind contributing even more than they are doing already. |

This is incorrect. The average age of TDF winners is just over 28 years. The average age of French cyclists in their first TDF is about 25 years. It is not a race for "kiddies". Incidentally, there is research that shows that the TDF riders live considerably longer than average. Having the race is therefore likely to be a net benefit even if only viewing the probable health benefits to those who are encouraged to emulate these fine examples. Think of the children! |
