Protecting against the cold using a wooly hat is a primary safety aid,

the winter as well as a woolly hat. *A cold brain makes poor decisions.

I suggest you put your woolly hat on right now. *And put a pinch of sea salt
on your head. *That will help to combat the cold.

Oh, and a seaweed tablet as well. *Almost forgot that.

Yeah, thanks, I was forgetting this morning it's been working so well.

You want to attempt that which is incorrect? Go ahead.

Incorrect? In what way?

Are you denying using the posting names of:

I have said - you seem to be a bit of a Porker here.

My wife has hidden our tablets so that she doesn't run out.

Well, i've cycled to owrk & back every day this week.

legs hurt like hell for the first 3 days, but by friday they were not
too bad. *The muscles have really tightened up now.

First couple of days i did the journey about the same time as using
the car, on friday I got there in 5 mins less than it took in the
car. *Well pleased.

Few things to get used to though. *Some cars wizz past really close
which scares me a bit. *Helmet is still uncomfortable. i keep
adjusting it but i supose i will get used to wearing it.

But i'm pleased I got the bike now, it will save me quite a lot of
money and the exercise will be good for me. *Also means the wife can
use the car during the week if she wants to.

Thanks for starting a proper cycling post; welcome to the World of
commuting by bike.

It can be hard work at times; we've had some horrible windy wet days
so far this year which really test one's will-power. And beware these
frosty mornings for ice; I had my first locked wheel this morning;
interesting when approaching a roundabout; learn which are the slopes
where you need to brake really early. Using just one brake in these
circumstances is advised; keeps the other wheel turning to maintain
stability.

There was a pile-up on the M4 this morning; colleagues in cars got in
around 10.30. My cycle/ train combo meant that I was in at the usual
time. This is one disadvantage of cycling; there's no "stuck-on-the-
motorway" excuse. OTOH there are punctures. Haven't had one for 6
months on the commuter bike, which is good.

Please give us occasional updates on how you're getting on and how you
cope with the inevitable setbacks.

That is true - my commuting time is 100% reliable, whereas drivers are
always swanning in late blaming "the traffic".

Most cyclists are apparently rather rich. If you can't at least
afford two
cars, are you sure you're ready for membership of the cycling
fraternity?

Not needing to have two is why they're rich.

You've missed the point by a fair margin there.

Ability to afford is highly aligned to desire. What I can afford and the
next man can afford will differ considerably. Most people cannot afford
a new £1000 bike every year. I can, but I can’t really afford a second car.
