I'm not familiar with this term "corking" *- does it mean that you
impeded the legal progress of the taxi driver?

No, I was attempting to prevent the illegal progress of an impatient
driver forcing his way into oncoming traffic from a side turning.

See Highway Code.

171

You MUST stop behind the line at a junction with a ‘Stop’ sign and a
solid white line across the road. Wait for a safe gap in the traffic
before you move off.

[Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 16]
172

The approach to a junction may have a ‘Give Way’ sign or a triangle
marked on the road. You MUST give way to traffic on the main road when
emerging from a junction with broken white lines across the road.

So you decided to play amateur policeman?

Had I been a policeman undoubtedly the taxi driver would have been
arrested on the spot for assault, though not as he should have been
for using a taxi as a dangerous weapon to commit an assault. Anyway,
as I am not a policeman, and just an ordinary cyclist much lower in
the road pecking order, I knew it would be a waste of time calling the
police. Also, my leg was not injured. Last time I was rammed a few
months ago it dislodged my rear wheel.

Some here may wonder why I get rammed and not others. Maybe its
because I refuse to be intimidated by impatient drivers and am
prepared to stand up to them despite the risk to myself and my
bicycle. Also I am ready to speak our about being rammed while others
just take it in their stride as a common occurrence.

I was there Friday night, were you the idiot who rode in front of a
taxi that was just moving up to the stop line?
If it was you then you should be grateful that he did not knock you
off your bike.
Then you started screaming and shouting at him because he had no right
to be there.
I was not on pitiful mess, but was cycling home from work, people like
you do not represent cyclists like me, you are frankly dangerous to
everybody.

Oh dear - Doug has been rumbled lol

Doug obviously demands that others on the roads observe road laws
(which they are obviously doing), whilst breaking many himself.

Doug. You are a hypocrite, and still try to affiliate yourself to a
group which you as a motor vehicle user have no right to belong to!

How will all of the ****wit Critical mass participants feel when they
realise that you as an illegal E-biker are actually one of 'The enemy'
Doug ?

Nope. He was over the stop line and trying to nose into the Mass.

If it was you then you should be grateful that he did not knock you
off your bike.

What? So you advocate the deliberate use of a vehicle as a weapon?

Then you started screaming and shouting at him because he had no right
to be there.

He was putting my life in danger. His foot had only to slip on the
pedal and I would have been under the taxi.

I was not on pitiful mess, but was cycling home from work, people like

I wouldn't want to represent cyclists like you. BTW, do you own a car
or use one?

No he was not.

Where in the name of all thats good did you get that from?
No I do not advocate such a thing, and indeed did not say that I did.
I stand by what I said, you put yourself in danger on purpose, and
have the driver to thank for his actions in not hitting you.

Then you started screaming and shouting at him because he had no right
to be there.

He was putting my life in danger. His foot had only to slip on the

So do not put yourself in that danger, you stopped in front of him on
purpose & then started shouting.

I am very glad you do not represent me.
Why do you want to know if I own a car, it makes no difference to your
stupid actions, but if it helps you, no I do not own a working car.
I live & work (most of the time) in London, so most of the time I
don't need a car.
I use whatever transport is best for me at the time.
I cycle to work (in London) & may use the bike for local journeys.
I might use trains or busses if they are best, also taxis.
When I decide I need a car, I hire one.
If I am working out of London then I will take a train or fly & use
cabs or a hire car at the other end.
Pitiful mess is just an excuse for a bunch of antisocial idiots to
upset as many people as they can, they do nothing to help cyclists, in
fact the opposite, they give them a bad name.

In fact I do own a car, it is kept at my brotheres house, it's not
working at present.
I inherited from a relative when he died, someday I intend to get it
working, it's a 1960's Cortina 1600E.

and still quite practical, if you are going to use it for more than a
thousand or two per year then it would be a good idea to get it converted
for unleaded.
