There have been few hydraulic rim brakes, most notably the Maguras
that mount to cantilever studs and predated even V-brakes.

Those have always struck me as being a kludgy retrofit, but I guess
they are (or were) popular in some circles and a current version is
still being sold.[...]

Well, André Jute likes them.

I'm not sure what you are describing but if you want to start playing
the "flex" game, note how the long and slender arms of most typical v-
brakes flex quite a bit more than the shorter and stouter arms a of a
typical classic cantilever.

Most of the flex is in the mounting studs, not the brake arms.

Or in some cases, the seat/chain stays or the fork the studs are mounted on. I
had a bike where this was visible until adding a "horseshoe" brace.

I've seen this on rear stays fitted with Magura Hydraulic rim brakes. I figured
it just added a bit of modulation :-)

If you think a bike is more tool than toy, then hydraulic brakes
are probably not for you.

Interestingly Magura hydraulic rim brakes are popular with the
former here, being pretty much maintenance free.

Hydraulic disk brakes become more popular in winter conditions.
