Default Trek 1400 or Cannondale R600?

Hi,

I'm keen to get into Road riding to improve my rapidly declining fitness
and have narrowed down my options to a Cannondale R600 for $2,250 or a
Trek 1400 for $1900 (Are these prices reasonable?). I'd appreciate any
advice, is it worth paying an additional $350 for a better frame?

Thanks in advance,

Ed

I think either would be more than adequate for your needs. I've got the 1400
and have been happy with it, although you should be able to do a bit better
than $1900. I'm not sure of the specs on the Cannondale, but if it's
equipped similarly to the Trek, you can't really go wrong.

Tyres, tubes & knicks are my only ongoing costs ;-)

I would go for something a bit left of center. The Cannondale. I got a
2nd hand R3000 that was 3 years old and hardly ridden for $2.2k and
it's a beauty.

Don't rule out a 2nd hand bike and save $$$$, check out www.hippy.net
for a list of 2nd hand bike sites.

That would be this page:

I'm working on the new site and it might be up some time in this
lifetime..

I would probably go with the Cannondale, and I think you'll find the
standard equipment on it is pretty good. Having said that, i have a
friend who has a 1400 and it's niiiice. Tough call, probably better to
test them both and go with what feels best.

If you got the Trek, you could spend the saving on
shoes/pedals/upgrades etc.
