So petrol is hitting a $1.20 a litre, every second ACA & TT story is
winge about it.

That 'bargain' house and land package just 30 minutes (& 50k's) fro
the city on the freeway (at 3am monday morning & 90min's weekeda
morning) is not sounding like such a bargain. And of course there's n
public transport, it was a farm 5 years ago.

Glad I live within cycling distance of work and in an area with publi
transport.

I think we will see some significant upheavels in the next 5 to 1
years

Good to hear I'm not the only one feeling a little smug!

Gee, an unrenewable fossil fuel costing almost as much as bottled wate
or milk? heaven forbid....

It's a pity all we're hearing is bitching and demands for removal o
taxes. The only positive thing I've seen is an automotive colum
starting to talk about more fuel efficient cars - 'bout bloody tim
after guzzling 4wds, falcons and rx8s...

While acknowledging that increased prices always bite (be that at th
bowser or passed on in product price increases), I'm kind of enjoyin
the challenge it puts to me, and looking forward to running mor
errands by bike. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that there'll b
muchly bitching and weasling out of it before people/business starts t
be creative and find new solutions... But I must admit it's been a
interesting critical mass in the last few weeks with fuel price
combined with media around CBD congestion in Melbourne. One day they'l
connect the dots and come up with a little pedal machine..

I agree but spare a thought for those in regional areas that do not have
access to particlularly effective (read any) public transport. I
doesn't help that in those same areas councils and others are only just
waking up to the need to plan for active (peds and cyclists) and public
transport access to new development. And guess what -- it's too late in
a lot of place (thank goodness for river banks).

Cheers

I was thinking that myself. One story was about how a guy and his wife were
gaving a child and as they were becoming a family, thought that a 4WD would
the be "perfect vehicle", because it does, of course, take a 2600kg vehicle
to adequately carry a newborn child. Now due to the outrageous petrol price
rises, the poor darlings have been forced to consider a conventional car.
(pause for gasps of horror)

Won't somebody think of the children?

The sad reality is that people will bitch and moan about fuel price
but will still fill up the Landcruiser and still drive to the shop i
the next street

I found a tabloid rag on the floor of the men's room today (fitting
place for it, really?). The front page headline read something like
"But who will look after the kids?".

I don't know why that line came into my head.

Waking Up?
Wow, you must live in an enlightened area. Here in Campbelltown, NSW and
surrounds we have so much of what the first poster spoke of, that I
thought he might have been a local (arsehole {:-) - about the facitlities).

Given an offer to help fund a bicycle track beside the railway line to
join the Liverpool to Parramatta cycle path, our twits competed to see
who could laugh and make the silliest statement for the newspapers.

OTH, they were also recently funded for line making (add a bike stencil
every 500 metres and it is a bicycle lane) and bridge widening for a
"bicycle path" on the DOWNHILL side only.

I hadn't seen that "$220 to fill up the Prado" figure (how big is th
bloody tank???), but I had heard the fear-inducing claim that "it wil
cost the average family an extra $40 a week for petrol"... $40?? That'
pretty much our entire fuel budget for the week! Someone out there i
using my quota clearly...

(OT - What ever happened to LPG? I've made a mental note of looking fo
the little red stickers the last few days and I've seen bugger al
vehicles (excluding taxis) that use them anymore - Even most vans an
trade vehicles seem to be petrol.... You'd think with the bargai
basement price of LPG people would be going that way... )

Eddie(riding's free - so now can I buy that roadie?)
