Does this mean Bettini gets a rainbow helmet to replace that ghastly
olympic gold helmet ?

I hope so - otherwise, it would be so ugly they'd have to revoke his
Italian citizenship.

Ghastly?! Au contraire, mon ferret. It's beyond the financial
resources of most riders to have a fully matched bike and accessories.
Replicating decals, changing sponsorship, etc., drive up the cost.
Running down to the local hardware store to buy a can of gold spray
paint is a cheap and effective way to have perfectly matched
accessories. It also helps to camouflage stolen bikes. Very chi-chi
in inner cities. The Dutch do it with yellow bikes.
