Boris Johnson's dodgy claims about cyclist v bendy buses.
Boris Johnson in telling fibs about cyclists shock:

His claim that the 18 metre-long vehicles "wipe out cyclists, there are many cyclists killed every year" now looks to have been a little far-fetched. The latest official figures, obtained by Val Shawcross, Labour's transport spokesman on the Assembly, show there have in fact been no fatal incidents involving cyclists and the buses and only four serious incidents - where the cyclist may have required medical treatment - in the last four years. "One by one the wheels are coming off Boris's bus plan," she said. "The Mayor has branded bendy-buses 'traffic blocking cyclist-killers' yet his own figures show both claims are false. |

One would be one too many. Perhaps you don't agree. The latest official figures, obtained by Val Shawcross, Labour's transport spokesman on the Assembly, show there have in fact been no fatal incidents involving cyclists and the buses and only four serious incidents - where the cyclist may have required medical treatment - in the last four years. Is that all? Only four serious accidents? Oh in that case, there's absolutely nothing to worry about, is there? [I'll let you into a secret, BTW: as a pedestrian in C London, I like the bendy-buses because you can predict where they will go because their routes are so well advertised; they're more like trams or even light railway.] "One by one the wheels are coming off Boris's bus plan," she said. Oh, for Gawd's sake... your lot lost. Get over it, man. And used to it. |

The officials who produced the figures are the officials who introduced the bendy buses. I would treat any figures with suspicion. Mr Johnson may not be right on many things, but if he does exterminate bendy buses I will thank him for performing this service to the public. -- David Hansen, Edinburgh I will *always* explain revoked encryption keys, unless RIP prevents me http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2000/00023--e.htm#54 |
