Default Cycle sales outstrip car sales

QUOTE:
"Around 3.35 million cycles were sold in Britain in 2013. According to the Department for Transport's vehicles statistics, 2.2 million cars were registered for the first time in Great Britain in 2013 (Vehicle Statistics, Table VEH 0152).

This means that over a million more bikes were sold than there were new cars registered - as there have been for the last few years too."

CTC another reliable source = not.

Halfords have just reported an 11% drop in push bike sales.

The back of any pikey truck has many bicycles thrown on for scrap, it
seems a terrible waste, they should go to some country that needs them,
Africa perhaps.

Aye, I've noticed that the pikey trucks seem have loads of bicycles in them.
Best that they be melted down and used for useful purpose.
I would not give Africa a drink of water in a drought.

The CTC seem to have trouble with their figures, a common problem it
seems. No sales information on push bikes is collected centrally.
However, as the vast majority (over 98%) of push bikes sold are made
in China you can use HMRC data. This shows :-

2010 - 3,640,000 bikes sold.
2011 - 3,580,000
2012 - 3,600,000
2013 - 3,350,000
2014 - 3,630,000

UK Bicycle manufacture in 2000 was 1,200,00 push bikes. In 2014 it
was 52,000.

In 2010 the value of the UK push bike market was 1,170,000 Euro. In
2014 it was 1,050,000 Euro.

IN 2000 the UK bicycle industry (including parts and accessories)
employed 1,820,00 people. In 2011 it employed 320,000, in 2014 it
employed 230,000.
(source Conebi)

The average price paid for a push bike in the UK in 2014 was 233, at
that price most last less than 12 months and soon go to join the
others in the back of the garden shed.

I wonder how that pans out in sales by 's.
(Obviously with the average bicycle costing a lot more than the average car,
of course).

Wow, no kidding.
So Ford Focus sales outstrip those of Ferraris?
Thanks for your cutting edge insight.

You really, really don't get irony, do you?
