Default "Smirking" motorist gets TWO YEARS in jail for cowardly attack

QUOTE:

"Investigating officer, PC Richard Stagg from Selby police, said: 'It's not quite clear what Heslop hoped to achieve by his intimidating and ultimately dangerous behaviour towards the cyclist.

'But I hope this case sends a ***clear message*** (EMPHASIS MINE) to motorists who think they can get away with such aggressive behaviour towards other road users."

END QUOTE.

He was also BANNED for 3 years and has to take his test again.
Good result all round.

Acceptable result, maybe.
He used his motor vehicle as a weapon that should mean an automatic life driving ban.
Also if he had attempted to murder someone with a legally held firearm he would be looking at 20 years minimum.

Agreed.

He used his motor vehicle as a weapon that should mean an automatic life driving ban...

....in your opinion, which, of course, is of rather limited value.

But what does the law say on the matter? If the court have got it wrong
and imposed a penalty not provided for under the appropriate statute,
you ought to speedily contact them and tell them where their error lies.

Please let us know what happens when you do that.

Also if he had attempted to murder someone with a legally held firearm he would be looking at 20 years minimum.

What is the relevance of that?

Was the charge (a) attempted murder, (b) high treason, (c) sorting out
one's recycling into the wrong bin or (d) "causing serious injury by
dangerous driving"?

We all know that the authorities see (c) as one of the worst offences a
citizen can commit.

Anyway, it's about time that everyone was banned from smirking whilst
driving or riding, especially up in the north east.

What about criminal drivers who are now in jail for attacking a cyclist?
Do you care about him?
