Default Jackass Racing Myths

1) That a Cat 4 or 5 should buy special racing equipment instead of
learning how to race. Or that there's no harm in buying special
equipment WHILE learning how to race.

2) That TT performance would be enhanced with aero equipment before the
racer knows how to TT consistently.

3) That special gearing, special wheels or special light bikes are
necessary for beginners.

Anyone that tries to pass off any of these myths on you is selling you
a bill of goods or has himself been sold a bill of goods. I have a C40
with all carbon parts on it with seat pack, pump and water bottles it
weighs in less than one pound lighter than my steel Basso Loto in like
setup. Both have Campy Chorus components except for FSA barbon cranks.

No harm in enjoying the C40. On the other hand, someone else's dust
TASTES better when you're riding a Huffy. Not sure why that is, but
it's true. Trust me, I've studied the matter extensively.

I like these myths. Kinda like the helmet thing. It's called separating
the herd.

I have a collection of bikes. I paid a small pitance of what these
bikes cost new since there are so many Cat 5s that were convinced that
they're performance would improve by buying expensive equipment and
then after paying out half a year's income to buy these things
discovered that they couldn't even match their performance with their
old equipment and they sold the stuff off for 30 cents on the dollar.

Hey, I have couple Look bikes, two Colnagos, two Merckxs, two
cyclocross bikes, two Bassos, a Santa Cruz Superlight, a Fuji. Man, I
can't even keep up with all of the bikes I have.

But people who can't afford to own this stuff are commonly being
convinced by jackasses here that they couldn't possibly be competitive
unless they own this really expensive stuff.

Of ALL of the people here, you're one who knows better. And yet you
don't seem able to laugh at those who are suggesting special TT stuff
for a Cat 5.

Obviously you bought into the myth that Chorus is "good enough." The
problem of course is that you must have Record to get maximum
performance. Jeesh.

Why not answer Kurgan's question straight up? In other words, why can
another old slow dude NOT have cool bike ****, but you can?

I thought the object was to make them eat your dust.

Also, do note that the dust generated by a carbon fiber C40 may be
toxic. So, making them eat your expensive Colnago dust might be
insulting -and- injurious. However, I'm sure carbon fiber-expert Tom
Kunich can tell us if in fact this is the case, and the precise speed
one needs to go to have a C40 slough off fibers.

Because the other slow old dudes have no sense of aesthetics. To those
guys, Philistine Wood hubs are as good as any other.
