If you are going to fake news stories at least make them believable.

I really cannot fathom how anyone gets caught by these cameras they are
painted bright yellowy/orange some are painted with yellowy/orange and
black stripes, they are also VERY signposted .
Camera vans and mobile police guns I can sort of see but fixed
cameras should not catch anyone. Even my car (A [just
about]poverty-spec Yaris) beeps at you for fixed cameras .

My car does not have a sat nav, and I am afraid that I just use paper
maps. Dickensian, I know.

As far as obeying speed limits is concerned, I watch out for those round
signs with numbers on. Something that reminded me if I inadvertently
exceeded the limit would be good, though.

I've got an Android 7 phone that does include GPS. Unfortunately, I'm
far, far too mean to pay for mobile data, and I haven't found a decent
sat nav programme that allows downloading maps in advance.

Can I ask what people here use, and what they think of it, please?
Obviously, it's off topic to ask this on a cycling NG, but it makes a
change from bickering about whether cycling is a good thing or not.

If you get 'co-pilot', the maps are downloaded via your home wi-fi and
it can run perfectly with no internet/data connection. It gives a sound
before and at 'safety cameras' It can also make a noise at a preset of
'the speed limit' 5 mph over or 10mph over. Navigation features are
good too.

My Garmin Nuvicam goes bong whenever there is a speed camera or if I ever went above the speed limit.

Sat navs often seem to find stupid routes, leaving sign posted main
roads to go down narrow country lanes just because it has determined it
to be 3 inches shorter.

I drive a minibus for a charity and want the most comfortable route for
the people behind me. I can't use a Garmin because although it will get
me there I can't just turn it on and go. I have to go over the route
beforehand and set the way points in a tablet. With Google it can be
downloaded for off line use.

A gripe I have is that I *don't* want speed camera warnings, even when I
am driving my own car. They are easily visible and rarely placed where
the speed is not intuitive. I can't find any means in Google to turn
them off (and it isn't intelligent enough to only warn when the limit is
being broken).

Agreed. I find googles bleating about cameras annoying too.

I have a paid-for satnav, but the only respect in which it is better
than google is that I can turn off the function where it nags about
(what it terms) 'safety' cameras. Despite that, I still use google
more than the one I paid for some time ago.

Doesn't google let you pre-download regions / patches of maps? I
think I've done that in the past (I think I did it when I went outside
the UK and didn't want to pay data roaming charges, which were then
astronomical). If you still can, google is now better than anything
else I've used (despite its annoying nagging about cameras), including
paid-for devices (though I haven't used a very recent device).
