Default Maps for cycling

I'm planning a route from Southampton to Cardiff, via Bristol in a couple of
weeks. I know it's been mentioned on here before, but which maps do people
recommend for cycling (ie, showing relief, etc). Are there any specialist
ones?

TIA

I use a Ordnance Survey based 3 miles to one inch road atlas and tear out
the pages I need for my ride. I bought a 2004 edition from one of the cheap
book shops for £4. For road use these are usually adequate.

I'll second the road map suggestion.

Let me know how you get on as I'd like to do this trip next Spring; nr
Soton to nr Bridgend and I wouldn't mind some pointers. It'll be the
longest day's cycling I've done.

I just use a large scale road map to give me a virtual cooridor - or
Autoroute then get the OS landrangers out and go from there. If you want any
opinions about the Wiltshire bit I'll happily pass on my experience of the
area.

By 'pointers', I mean roads to avoid etc etc.

Avoid the A36 which is the most direct route on the map. Its a busy
relatively high speed car and truck run. OTOH there are some nice quiet
lanes that run parallel to it.

My actual destination would be nr a small village called Llantwit
Major.

The total distance according to multimap and viamichelin etc seems to
be about 150miles which is]][p[p
