What do you think of indoor cyclocross? Has it been attempted in your area?
Why can't it work here in the US?

Default Hey Tom Kunich...

It cost 25 Euros to get into the 2009 Cyclocross World Championships to
watch the elite riders. There was an estimated 30,000 people in attendance.

($1.3 / Euro) x (25 Euro/person) x (30,000 people) = $975,000

Beer, soda, frites, braats, and souvenirs were also available.

Isn't the whole idea of cyclocross to get muddy and/or covered in snow?

Motocross started outside and seems to do just fine indoors.

I wonder if there have been any attempts by anyone to try indoor cyclocross
in the US.

The biggest obstacle is that 'cross is not the most profitable use
of that kind of interior space.

A guy near here was working on that. Then an indoor soccer operation
went under and all available hours at other facilities disappeared.

Any promoter that is stupid enough to try that would lose their ass.

There's no way they'd be able to pay for the arena rental. Not enough
paying spectators. It's a niche sport in the US. They don't even show
it on TV. The great majority of people don't even know what cyclocross
is.

Dumbass,

In Amerika bike race venues are paid for by entry fees.

I think SmithersInMinneapolis tried to get something going in the indoor
stadium there, but he got shot down for some reason. SchwartzSoft might
be able to expound?

Yeah it was Smithers. Cyclocross doesn't compete well with soccer
for that kind of space.

Entry fees won't cover that sort of space.

It could happen if there was some 'cross fan willing to lose money on
his/her building.

What would be the point anyways? 'Cross is cool because you can run it
in any weather.

thanks,

K. Gringioni.

Apparently velodromes don't either in Minneapolis.
