Default No lights, dark clothing, you know what comes next

The accident happened on a dark, unlit road at 6.55pm on February 24.

Both Mr Pickard and Mr Gilbert were wearing dark clothing and neither of
their bikes had lights or reflectors, the inquest heard.

Coroner Trevor Kirkman read out from a statement given to police by Mr
Denton following the accident.

In it, Mr Denton said: "I overtook a car. I saw two shapes in the road in
front of me. I swerved to the left but hit one of them head on.

"I saw a person lying in the road. He was motionless."

"We saw a figure thrown into the air. Then we knew he was going to come down.

Need not have done - he could have gone straight to heaven.

He police officer told the court: "This collision was unavoidable."

********: if the cyclist had followed the highway code, then the collision
would have been avoided
