You really wonder why the Highway Code is not compulsory learning and
implementation with regard to cyclists.

What I find incredible is that cyclist so rarely break the rules of
motorways that it makes headline news when they do.

What percentage of motorists who break the rules of motorways, such as
speed limits, make headline news?

Don't know, but it's off topic on a cycling NG

It's not as rare as it should be. I have encountered cyclists on the
motorway too. As far as I'm aware, they were not caught by the police.

The motorway regulations (eg, "No cycling, not never, not no-how") do
not include speed limits.

Speed limits derive their existence from Road Traffic Acts.

It's not effective in preventing motorist idiocy, some of them even whinge about being caught: http://www.dailypost.co.uk/incoming/...y-zone-6181815

Why would the scarcity of rule breaking cyclists be off-topic for a
cycling newsgroup?

OK, then. What percentage of motorists using the motorway hard
shoulder to make non emergency phone calls do you suppose make
headline news?

Speed limits derive their existence from Road Traffic Acts.

Wouldn't cars driving along off-road cycle paths be a better comparison?

100% of 0%, of course.

What about pedestrian and cycle only bridges?
http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/1073...k_aunt/?ref=mr

Just one of dozens of miscreant motorists made headline news.

Oh - and even my mum fell foul of traffic regulations preventing
motorists driving in bus/cycle lanes he

Caught by the anpr camera he

Neddless to say, she didn't make headline news.
