Cyclist filmed himself being shoved off bike by motorbike rider
QUOTE:
A police investigation has been launched after a cyclist was shoved from his bike by a motorbike rider. Cyclist Andy Goodman caught the moment on camera as he was pushed by an overtaking motorbike rider, causing him to fall from his bike during a ride on Monday, April 13. Greater Manchester Police have now launched an investigation, but no arrests have yet been made, reports Altrincham Today. The incident happened at around 5.20pm on April 13 on Sinderland Road, in Altrincham, just outside Manchester. Mr Goodman, 51, has released the video online, which shows a near miss from a van before a rider on a motocross rider speeds by and the bike veers close to Mr Goodman. A statement from police said: “Officers are appealing for more information after an assault in Altrincham. “At around 5.20pm on Monday April 13 2020 police were called to a report of an assault on Sinderland Road in Altrincham. “A 51-year-old man was assaulted by a man riding a motorbike shortly after he was approached by a driver in a blue transit van. “No one was seriously injured during the incident. Enquiries are on-going and no arrests have been made.” Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 01618567530. Earlier this week, Cycling Weekly reported on a police investigation into the death of a 15-year-old boy who was cycling in Derbyshire. Adam Barry, 15, was hit by a car as he rode his bike just outside the village of Risley, Derbyshire and died from his injuries. Police launched an investigation and asked the public to come forward with any information or dashcam footage, as officers tried to trace the driver and car involved. Derbyshire Police have now confirmed that a 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crash, which happened at around 9pm on Derby Road on Saturday, April 25. https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/l...igation-455020 |

You see him falling off the bike, but... You do see a cyclist falling from their bike just as the motocross rider speeds very close by him. It is possible, from what you can see in the video, the cyclist simply threw themself to the ground for some unknown reason at exactly that moment. But if the cyclist claims he was shoved I think it fair enough that he should report the incident to the police for investigation. The motocross bike is unmarked (i.e. has no visible rear registration plate) in that clip, so is that even legally on the road? Curiously another cyclist is coming along on the other side of the road and passes at precisely the time all this is happening. The ideal eye-witness to exactly what happened, one would have thought. Strange they haven't come forward. |

It seems likely that the motorcyclist was not road legal though, so tracing it through the number plate might be tricky. |

Strange they haven't come forward. Because they are cowards. Most cyclists are cowards. That's a bit like saying most people are cowards. Undoubtedly, some cyclists are cowards because some people are - it takes all sorts. But maybe the guy on the motor bike is the local deranged psycho and the eye witness cyclist and psycho know each other. In which case, who could blame the eye witness for wanting to keep out of it. Afterall, no one has been seriously hurt... yet. On the other hand, as Simon has pointed out, it's early days and the police have only just appealed for witnesses. Maybe it's the deranged psycho who is the real coward. |

You see him falling off the bike, but... You do see a cyclist falling from their bike just as the motocross rider speeds ....ie, moves... very close by him. It is possible, from what you can see in the video, the cyclist simply threw themself to the ground for some unknown reason at exactly that moment... ....or just fell off because he was paying more attention to what was going on behind him than to where he was going or on staying in control of the bike. It was quite reminiscent of a video linked here some time ago, which showed a cyclist turn slightly to make a gesture at someone behind him and promptly hit the kerb and collapse in a heap. But if the cyclist claims he was shoved I think it fair enough that he should report the incident to the police for investigation. The motocross bike is unmarked (i.e. has no visible rear registration plate) in that clip, so is that even legally on the road? We've all seen illegal motorbikes, quad bikes, etc. The fact they're unregistered makes them hard to trace (does that suggest anything else to you?). Whether there is enough detail in that video to even identify the rider is a moot question, let alone "prove" what is suggested. Curiously another cyclist is coming along on the other side of the road and passes at precisely the time all this is happening. The ideal eye-witness to exactly what happened, one would have thought. Strange they haven't come forward. I watched it twice. I didn't notice the cyclist coming the other way. I wish I could remember the details of that YT video I mentioned. |
