Surrey Police target cyclists
Surrey Police are targeting inconsiderate cyclists in the Box Hill area as
the roads become every more popular for riding. A Police spokesperson said that this action was taken due to "quite a lot of anti-social cycling in the area." When asked to confirm what anti-social cycling was, they said it applied to those who were riding more than two abreast, or in big groups, and causing cars to slow down http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/...-cyclists.html |

Oh my God! Heaven forbid that cars should be slowed down! Of course, the majority of cops are car users themselves and that is obviously why they consider it such a problem, while I as a cyclist do not at all. Indeed, slower cars are safer cars, except maybe to each other! But isn't this yet another example of extra-judicial policing? The police decide what crime it is and then decide to enforce it without even consulting the justice system in the first place? Another example of extra-judicial policing I have been reminded of this morning, in connection with something else, is the police filtering of evidence, which sometimes happens. -- . Why, yes it is! |
