Default Man who died after collision with cyclist in Didsbury is named

QUOTE:
A man who died after a collision with a cyclist in south Manchester has been named.

Ian Roland Gunn, 56, died in hospital a week after the collision in Didsbury last month.

Attempts to trace the male push bike rider, who may be unaware of Mr Gunn's death, are ongoing police said.

Manchester Coroner's Court said the case had been referred to them and that the deceased had been identified as Mr Gunn.

However they said no date for the opening of an inquest had yet been set.

Mr Gunn was a pedestrian and is believed to have been crossing Wilmslow Road near Didsbury Library at the time of the collision, around 4.35pm on Saturday June 20.

He suffered serious head injuries and died a week later in hospital.

His family are being supported by specialist liaison officers.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said this week that it is believed the cyclist remained at the scene when emergency services arrived, but that officers were not initially informed of the incident and were appealing to the cyclist to make contact with them to help with their enquiries.

The cyclist had not yet been located and enquiries to trace them were ongoing GMP spokesman confirmed on Friday.

In a statement issued on Monday Police Sergeant Andrew Page, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts and sympathies are with the loved ones of the man at this desperately sad time.

“We recognise that the cyclist will be unaware of the sad developments since the collision occurred but we appeal to him directly to get in touch with us and help establish the circumstances so we can fully understand how this incident happened.

“Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who could have dash cam footage of the incident should also contact police as this would significantly aid our enquiries.”
